Portraits

Portraits

The almighty portrait and figure. Always a challenge, not only to get a likeness but to recreate an image that is interesting and has character. I've often wondered how many portraits are out there by how many artist? The mixture of light, emotion, and character are just some of the elements needed to create a good portrait. Another challenge I am extremely interested in capturing.

Still Lifes and Floral

Still Lifes and Floral

There is something about the way light hits certain objects that will grab my attention every time. I have a kitchen window that faces the west. The light that comes through in Spring and Summer will illuminate almost anything I place in front of it. Deliberately choosing objects that bring back memories or that are simply interesting draws me into arranging and setting up still lifes to photograph and paint.

Landscapes

Landscapes

The majesty of a beautiful landscape is very inspiring. Light, color, the feeling of space are all part of the greatness of sense of tranquility. There is no creator like God, but attempting to re-create that feeling of a deep breath of being outside in the powerful presence of His majesty is truly one of my greatest challenges.

Experimental

Experimental

These pieces of fine art are a mixture of textures, media and composition ideas using primarily soft pastels. Although I love the feeling of completing representational or impressionist works, I also like the flux of creating and experimenting. These still have  elements of representation and impressions but also a sense of time.

Occasionally, I will work small, mainly to work out compositions and to have smaller works available.
